Caring For Your Jewellery Purchase

Different gemstones have different care requirements. Talk to a professional to determine the best care practice. Be cautious when using ultra-sonic cleaners and know that gems will scratch other gems.

Pearls are very soft and can be damaged easily. They should be the last things you put on and the first thing you take off. Avoid perfumes and aerosols, which will damage the pearl surface. Have pearls re-strung annually if they are worn often.

A diamond is the hardest natural material, however, it can be chipped and scratched. Use warm, soapy water with a touch of ammonia to clean your diamond jewellery. Store gem sets and diamond jewellery separately so they do not scratch each other.

Silver: To help prevent tarnishing, keep silver pieces in an airtight place. A variety of products are available to help remove tarnish. Check clasps and findings often to ensure they work properly and to prevent loss.

Gold & Platinum: Household cleaners like bleach can corrode gold jewellery. White gold may need to be rhodium plated over time. Non-abrasive cleaners are always recommended for these metals.
